Things to Do in BV / Downtown BV

Downtown

Downtown Buena Vista

A small mountain town with a strong outdoor culture, a genuine brewery, a public whitewater park, and one of Colorado's best September festivals. Under a mile from our door.

BV is a small town, population around 3,000. Main Street is about 4 blocks long with a mix of outdoor gear shops, local restaurants, a handful of art galleries, and one anchor brewery that most visitors end up at twice. The outdoor industry has brought in a younger, active crowd over the past decade, and the town has the energy that comes with that without losing its mountain-town character.

Our property is less than a mile from Main Street. You can walk, run, or ride over in minutes.

🍺 Eddyline Brewery & Pub

102 Linderman Ave · Hours vary · BV's flagship brewery

Eddyline opened in BV in 2010 and has become the anchor of the local craft beer scene. The main location at 102 Linderman Ave has a large outdoor patio that fills up on good-weather evenings. The food is wood-fired and well-regarded, not just bar snacks.

The flagship beer is the CrankYanker IPA, a West Coast-style IPA with a honey malt backbone and tropical hop finish. It was one of the first beers packaged in 16-ounce cans in Colorado, a distinction that gets mentioned often. The Epic Day Double IPA and the Grapefruit Yanker round out the core lineup. A non-alcoholic CrankYanker is also on tap for those who want the experience without the alcohol.

There is a second Eddyline location at the South Main development, a newer mixed-use outdoor community south of downtown.

CrankYanker IPA

West Coast IPA with honey malt backbone and tropical hop finish. The original flagship, and still the most ordered beer in the place.

Epic Day Double IPA

Brewed with Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops. A DIPA for people who want something bigger. Good after a long day on the mountain.

Grapefruit Yanker IPA

The more approachable sibling of the CrankYanker. Citrus-forward. A reliable choice if you are not a committed hop head.

🚣 BV Whitewater Park

Center of town · Free public access

The Arkansas River runs through the center of downtown BV, and the town has built a whitewater park right in the middle of it. The park features man-made features that create consistent wave and hole conditions for kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders.

Even if you are not paddling, it is worth a visit. There is a grassy riverside area with seating where you can watch kayakers running the features. The park is a gathering spot on summer afternoons, and kids tend to find ways to get near the water regardless of adult supervision intentions.

Good to Know

  • Access: Free and open to the public
  • Parking: Free lot off Crossman Ave
  • Season: Best during spring/summer runoff when flows are high
  • For paddlers: Intermediate kayak skill recommended
  • For spectators: Good any time the river is running

🛍️ Main Street & South Main

Under a mile from our property

Downtown Main Street

The original downtown has a few blocks of independent shops covering the expected mountain-town mix: gear, gifts, clothing, and a handful of food spots ranging from quick breakfast options to proper sit-down dinners. The coffee scene has improved significantly in the past few years. If you like walking around a small downtown with good scenery in every direction, BV delivers.

South Main Development

South Main is a planned outdoor community about a mile south of downtown with its own shops, restaurants, and the second Eddyline location. It has a more intentionally designed outdoor-lifestyle feel. The Arkansas River runs along one edge of the development and there is direct river access from the walking paths.

🎉 14er Fest (September)

Annual multi-sport festival · Exact dates vary by year

Every September, BV hosts the 14er Fest, a multi-sport festival that takes over Main Street and the surrounding area. Events include fly fishing competitions, mountain bike races, off-road challenges, trail runs, and live music on Main Street in the evenings. It draws a strong regional crowd and the energy in town during the festival weekend is noticeable.

September is also one of the best months to be in BV for other reasons: the aspens are turning, the weather is typically clear and cool, and the summer tourist crowds have thinned out. If your dates align with 14er Fest, it is worth planning around.
