Things to Do in BV / Christmas & New Year's

Holiday Season

Christmas & New Year's in Buena Vista

A snowy mountain town and a ski hill an hour away. Buena Vista makes a great holiday base without the Vail or Breckenridge price tag or crowds.

Between Christmas and New Year's, most of Colorado's famous ski towns are booked solid and priced accordingly. Buena Vista is close enough to reach several ski resorts for a day trip, but far enough off the I-70 corridor that lodging stays reasonable, even over the holidays.

Our property is set up for exactly this kind of trip: a quiet 2-acre setting away from any noise, room for a full family or group of friends, and a walkable downtown less than a mile away for holiday dinners out.

🎄 Why Book a Colorado Christmas in BV

Skip the Resort-Town Markup

Holiday week lodging rates in Vail, Breckenridge, and Aspen routinely triple or quadruple. Buena Vista sits about an hour from Monarch Mountain and within two hours of Copper Mountain and Breckenridge, so you can ski the big name resorts as day trips while paying mountain-town, not resort-town, lodging rates.

A Quiet Home Base

Our property sits on 2 peaceful acres, not stacked next to neighboring units. After a day of skiing, hot springs, or driving around looking at Christmas lights, you come back to a quiet house instead of a shared condo hallway.

❄️ Holiday Week Itinerary Ideas

Ski Day

Monarch Mountain is about an hour away and rarely has the lift lines that big-name resorts see over the holidays. See our full ski resorts guide for options and drive times.

Hot Springs Evening

Mt. Princeton and Cottonwood Hot Springs are both open on Christmas and New Year's, and there is nothing quite like soaking in 100-degree water while it's snowing. Book ahead for holiday weeks.

Downtown Stroll

BV's Main Street gets decorated for the season, and local restaurants and Eddyline Brewery stay open for holiday-week visitors. It's an easy, walkable evening out from our property.

🎆 New Year's Eve in BV

New Year's Eve in a small mountain town has a different feel than the fireworks-and-crowds scene in the bigger resorts. Expect a low-key night: dinner downtown, maybe a soak at the hot springs, and a quiet countdown back at the house. If you want the bigger fireworks show, Breckenridge and Copper Mountain both host New Year's Eve displays within about a 90-minute drive, an easy round trip if you'd rather sleep somewhere quiet afterward.
